Snow realityNo overselling

The real thing. Cold continental storms drop dry, low-density powder on open bowls and perfectly spaced birch trees, and the Freeride World Tour doesn't run qualifiers at fake powder resorts. Caveats, because we promised honesty: snowfall totals are good-not-Japan (this is cold-smoke quality over Hokkaido quantity), avalanche infrastructure and patrol culture are young, weather can shut lifts, and the resort is growing so fast that any stats you read — including ours — may be a season out of date.

Come here for

  • ✓Powder and freeride skiers — this is the reason PandaPowder exists
  • ✓Strong intermediates ready for their first big-mountain trip, at roughly half of Japan trip prices
  • ✓Anyone who wants Hemu village: wood cabins, Tuvan culture, zero crowds

Skip it if

First-week beginners and anyone allergic to logistics — getting here takes commitment (two flights + 2–3 hr transfer).

Getting there

Fly to Altay (AAT) or Burqin/Kanas (KJI, seasonal), then a 2.5–4 hr transfer to Hemu village depending on road conditions. Winter roads are plowed but weather delays happen — build in a buffer day. We arrange door-to-door transfers as part of every Altay itinerary.

Where to stay

Hemu village guesthouses and boutique lodges ($40–120/night) — log cabins, wood stoves, astonishing night skies. Book early for Chinese New Year; the village is small.

How tickets actually get bought

WeChat mini-program and Ctrip/Fliggy, Chinese-language only in practice. Multi-day and rental-inclusive packages exist but terms shift season to season.
